My Story:
Frequently I am asked “How did you choose Chinese Medicine?” My answer is a little different every time because looking back my experience wasn’t linear. I didn’t decide at a young age that I wanted to stick needles in people and plot out a plan for my future. Instead, in high school, I wanted to be a physicist. I gained the name “physics nerd” from my friends and would talk about the wave theory to a point of nausea. I went to Duke University where my heart decided to take a turn and I found myself exploring another passion of mine, Fine Art. I painted on canvas, paper, silk and wood, studied in Florence, Italy, learned to speak Italian and fell in love with the language, food and culture. I began to think about a life in Rome as my potential future and looked for a large company with whom I could transfer. After working as an Art Director in two major advertising agencies I realized, transfers are harder than I thought and advertising isn’t my end goal.
Living in San Francisco during this time had broadened my mind. Meditation, Mind/Body and organic had become important practices in my life. I was intrigued and drawn to new ways of thinking. So when the time came to consider a job change I was interested in exploring my original passion in the sciences, but this time with a new way of looking at it. Naturopathy, Chiropractic, Homeopathy, Nutrition, I explored them all. I read books, scheduled appointments, trying to get a taste of everything out there. Finally, I found the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
To be honest, at first I thought, no way, I can’t speak Chinese! I decided to attend the free Chinese Medicine Day that the school holds every quarter. What had started out as any other regular day ended up being a major turning point in my life. I sat in a small desk chair listening to a future Professor of mine talk about Chinese Medicine and felt all the pieces of my being come together as one. Talking about Qi (energy) and the circuits or meridians it travels through made me think of my love for physics. Hearing about the art of needling a patient and the techniques involved to manipulate Qi reminded me of my passion in using my hands in a creative manner. The herbs blended my interest in nutrition and eating organically and naturally. Most importantly, the philosophy that our minds and bodies are connected and that healing and balance is our natural state of being and something we all have the ability and right to experience resonated loudly with my practice of meditation and eastern philosophies. It was a true “Aha” moment! I sincerely feel that my purpose is to use Chinese Medicine as well as other healing tools I’ve been given to help people experience a sense of empowerment and balance when it comes to their health.
Along Came a Baby and NET:
I have been practicing NET for many years, but it was during my pregnancy that I really got to experience first hand the magic and power of this technique! I had a wonderful experience delivering my baby girl, Luna, at home with the help of some fantastic midwives and an incredible doula. In addition to their expertise and support, I credit a smooth and positive birth experience to having received a ton of NET and acupuncture sessions while pregnant.
This technique helped me process many fears and concerns that came up throughout my pregnancy. I have no doubt that clearing these blocked emotions helped me to prevent possible complications in birth.
Aside from my own personal experience, I've also been able to help many patients to become pregnant, turn breech babies, encourage labor and even helped a stalled labor progress while in a hospital. I am now focusing my practice on helping women prepare for an upcoming birth, recover from a traumatic birth experience and transition into motherhood.
How do I do this?
I use a Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) coupled with acupuncture.
What is NET?
NET is a safe, effective and natural way to instantly find stuck negatively charged emotions stored in your body and help you release them. It’s fast. It’s fun. And it can dramatically improve your health.
Finding and balancing these stuck memory loops is done with the help of simple muscle testing. This helps determine if your body is in harmony with a particular concept or idea which is linked to an unresolved emotional event. You’ll form a mental picture, or “snapshot”, of the original triggering event. Your body will assume an emotional state similar to the way it originally reacted. Then, we’ll contact a specific body point storing the emotion. This helps your body release the unresolved emotion linked to the event. It’s simple.
After the correction, many patients report feeling that a heavy weight has been lifted from their shoulders. Past memories or upcoming events that once felt charged with difficult emotion will feel more neutral and easy to deal with.
Why do I combine acupuncture with NET?
NET is a technique that finds stuck emotions in acupuncture meridians and releases them. Therefore, acupuncture is the perfect partner in helping the body to completely release the stuck emotions and circulate healing energy to the body. Patients comment that after experiencing NET, acupuncture is then a wonderfully relaxing way to finish processing.
